Where did your movement journey begin, and how did it lead you to Pvolve?
I have been in the fitness industry for a little over ten years now. I began my movement journey as a professional dancer and became curious about how to better cross-train my body. It was my love for movement that led me to become Pvolve’s Director of Training. Pvolve is a functional fitness method that aims to help women. We offer tailored classes designed for women’s changing needs and use resistance equipment to build strength, mobility, and flexibility for tomorrow and beyond.
What makes Pvolve different from other workout methods?
Pvolve utilizes low-impact movements that move through all three planes of motion, so your body is going to build a sustainable strength that leaves you feeling energized, not depleted.
Our on-demand library includes workout series like ‘Phase & Function.’ In this series, we worked with our Clinical Advisory Board to design workouts that help women better optimize their movement to where they're at in their cycle.
What are your tips for leveraging your cycle phases to get a better workout?
It’s important to note that no two bodies are the same and that each person will experience and need something different. However, generally speaking, women can experience an increase in their energy levels during the follicular phase and during ovulation, making more intense workout styles feel accessible. It’s the ideal phase for our ‘Cardio Burn’ or ‘Strength & Sculpt’ classes. On the other hand, we might gravitate towards more gentle workouts and recoveries during our bleed and luteal phase, such as yoga, pilates, or swimming. Pvolve offers a range of classes that leverage the hormonal benefits of each cycle phase.
Many women experience bloating during their periods. What are some Pvolve exercises that can help alleviate symptoms?
Our expert trainer team and Clinical Advisory Board considered potential symptoms women may experience, like bloating and low back pain, when creating series like ‘Phase & Function’ and ‘Managing with Endometriosis.’ Throughout these series, you’ll see workouts with a focus on standing abdominal work like rotations, gentle mat work, and controlled tempos to help women move through potential symptoms with more ease.
Can mindfulness practices enhance workout performance?
When we are mindful with our movement we help build body awareness one workout at a time. When we practice mindfulness with the corrective movement patterns that we practice at Pvolve, clients can see an increase in lower body strength, lean muscle mass, and energy levels overall.
How can we support our recovery after a workout?
At Pvolve, we believe in ‘Breaking a sweat, not your body!’ We can all use a little downtime sometimes. To support your body post-work, allow proper time between your workouts to make sure your body has had time to recover, develop good sleep practices, stay hydrated, and keep listening to your body!
