Your period is just one aspect of the menstrual cycle. During your cycle, hormones in your body cause the lining of your uterus to thicken – which happens so that if you get pregnant, the fertilized egg cell can implant into your uterine lining 🥚

Around the mid-point of your cycle, an ovary releases an egg cell, this process is called ovulation. This egg moves down your fallopian tubes and waits for a sperm cell to fertilize it ⏳ If that happens, and the cell successfully implants into the uterine wall, then it results in pregnancy 🫄 And if an egg isn’t fertilized, your body breaks down the thickened lining of your uterus and sheds it, resulting in your period — and thus a new cycle begins 🩸

Your menstrual cycle, then, describes this series of events as your body prepares for the release of an egg and its potential fertilization, followed by menstruation if there’s no successful fertilization. There are many decisions that motivate our choice in contraceptives. Therefore, there is no ‘best birth control method’, only the one that suits each individual best, and this often changes throughout our individual fertility journeys 💜 Every woman is looking for different benefits in her birth control, whether she prioritizes a non-hormonal method, a method that protects against sexually transmitted infections, or wants an option she doesn't need to think about every day 💭 The most important thing is that there are accessible options so each woman can find a birth control option that best provides what she needs out of it 💪

NC° is just one FDA Cleared option that we ensure is available over the counter 📲

You can check yourself at any time, but we recommend doing a breast self-check three to five days after your period ends 🩸 Our community of Cyclers gets a reminder in the Natural Cycles app at the optimal time to carry out a breast self-exam, which is typically a few days following your period 📳

As your period ends, your hormone levels can change, which may impact the size and feel of your breasts. During this time, the breasts are less likely to be swollen or tender from PMS symptoms, and we’re less sensitive to pain, which makes it a great time to do a self-exam ✋ Since everyone’s body is different, it's best to check when they're feeling normal for you 💜
