Are you thinking "I need to get pregnant this month"? Or do you wonder how long it will take to get pregnant when you do start trying? We know that this can be an anxious time for some of us, and playing the waiting game isn’t fun. However, we know a thing or two about female health - we've even published research on how long it takes to get pregnant. So whether you want to get pregnant straight away or sometime in the future, we’re on hand to share knowledge about how to get pregnant faster.

How to get pregnant fast naturally

First off, let’s remember that everyone’s fertility journey is different. Our bodies and cycles aren’t the same and there isn’t one hack for how to conceive fast. For some people, it can happen quickly, and for others, it can take more time. That said, there are a few things you can do that can help you along the way and may just help you get pregnant fast naturally.

Tips for getting pregnant fast

From taking it easy to becoming an expert on your body, here are a few tips to help you get started on your fertility journey:

Don’t stress!

We know that this one’s easier said than done, but there’s a direct link between stress and the menstrual cycle. In fact, feeling stressed or anxious can actually cause ovulation to be delayed, or sometimes skipped altogether, this is known as anovulation - and is quite common, with most of us at some point experiencing an anovulatory cycle.

Being stressed out can make it harder to get pregnant fast. This is counterintuitive when you may be feeling the pressure to get pregnant now! If you feel able, it’s a good idea to take a step back, take things easy and try to find ways to relax.

Put your health first

Selfcare is a great way to reduce stress levels and be kind to your mind, but looking after your body is just as important too! Eating healthily and getting regular exercise can help you get pregnant. Plus getting the right nutrients also promotes the healthy development of your baby throughout pregnancy.

When it comes to introducing healthy habits, it’s always a good idea to start small. No one can overhaul their whole routine overnight, but if you can add a few more active minutes to every day with some gentle exercise like walking or yoga, you’re well on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

Come off hormonal birth control

Coming off the pill when you want to get pregnant may seem obvious, but for some of us it’s a good idea to stop sooner rather than later. In fact, it can take some time for your body to go back to how it was before taking hormones, depending on a number of factors including how long you’ve been on hormonal birth control and the method itself, you may experience irregular cycles for up to 12 months after you stop taking hormonal birth control.

In order to get pregnant faster, it’s a good idea to stop taking hormonal birth control a bit before you want to get pregnant so you can give your body a chance to readjust to its natural cycle. However, there’s always a risk you can fall pregnant immediately, and if you don’t want to get pregnant straight away, it’s best to use a non-hormonal birth control option until you’re ready.

Get to know your cycle

Knowledge is power, and that’s also true when it comes to getting pregnant faster. When it comes to how to conceive, many people’s strategy is to have sex most days throughout the cycle, the truth is you’re only fertile for six days. If you can identify this fertile window, you’ll know when’s the best time to have sex so you can plan pregnancy with precision.

At Natural Cycles we use a temperature-based method paired with an algorithm to find the pattern of your cycle in order to find your ovulation day. This science is really useful for those of us who want to conceive. A recent study found that couples who used Natural Cycles to plan pregnancy got pregnant in three cycles on average. What’s more, you can use Natural Cycles as birth control until you’re ready to try for a baby, and then you’ll already know fertile days when you decide to start a family.

The best positions to get pregnant fast

You may have heard that lying on your back with your legs in the air can help you get pregnant, and some people say that certain sex positions can not only help you get pregnant faster but can help also you choose whether you conceive a boy or a girl! We’re here to debunk these myths.

In fact, there’s no research out there to suggest that different sex positions can help you conceive. When it comes to getting pregnant it turns out that when you do it is far more important than how you do it.

What to eat to get pregnant fast

Unfortunately, there are also no magic foods that can help you get pregnant faster. (Although it’s a good idea to make sure you’re eating a healthy balanced diet.) However, if you’re trying to get pregnant it’s a good idea to add a supplement of folic acid to your diet, as this can be really helpful for the development of your baby’s spine and brain.

Doctors recommend taking folic acid at least three months before you plan to get pregnant and throughout the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. To learn more about pregnancy diet, check out our tips on what to eat while pregnant

What to do if you can’t get pregnant

If you’ve been trying for a while and haven’t conceived yet, there is help out there. Under normal circumstances, the general advice is to try for twelve months before you do consult with a healthcare professional. However, if you have questions or concerns you can talk to your doctor at any stage. It’s also a good idea to talk to a healthcare professional earlier if you’re over the age of 35 or have a family history of reduced fertility.

When you visit your healthcare professional they may recommend diet and lifestyle changes alongside routine fertility testing for you and your partner.
